Automated directory submissions are often used for SEO with very little results when a long-term natural linking pattern is what is most effective. The more natural the pattern of link building, then the more weight is given by engines like Google. What do you think?<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('419','Ollie'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('419','Ollie','Automated directory submissions are often used for SEO with very little results when a long-term natural linking pattern is what is most effective.
Your discussion on backlinks was very helpful. Also the anchor text concept and linking to internal pages. You are doing a very good job with this SEO series. You might consider compiling it all together into an ebook someday. Thanks and keep it coming.

Good call, Earl - Squidoo has a huge audience for direct traffic to your site, and the links are gold with the search engines too!

Squidoo and HubPages are great places to use to build those one way links back to your main website. The weight that is applied to links coming back from either of these sites will definitely help with the ranking of your main site.

It will also help to drive some additional traffic back to your site.

BTW: Seth Godin is the person behind Squidoo and if you have ever read any of his books, the odd name and the whole whimsical nature of Squidoo seems to make at least a little more sense coming from him.

You touch on many great points, thank you Earl. I love Squidoo as well, and like you said, I like how they do not control what type of content you can place on the site. Many free web site creator services only allow personal use, so it can be hard to advertise anything, but not on Squidoo.
